![]() I won t put a link here - this is not an advert. Hope this update is helpful for anyone considering trying this option for VNC. The FREE version of NoMachine only allows one connection at any time to the Server machine, but their Paid licences allow concurrent use. I don t want or need to do this any more since I have closed my computer businesses, but I was interested to see that option. If you want / need to share a desktop with someone elsewhere around the world, it is not too hard to set up remote viewing / shared access. ![]() There's a whole other side to NoMachine too. It is a pity there doesn t seem to be an Open Source equivalent to NoMachine, but at least NoMachine has made this software Cross Platform and Free for non-commercial use. So far it is as if someone took my VNC 'wish list' and started ticking off the boxes one by one. Setting a HD video for performance seems to drop it to about 720p - but I was surprised how easy this was and how smoothly videos play. This is achieved by using the Display settings. NoMachine is the only VNC I have used so far (out of half a dozen tested) that lets me watch a movie running on the BRIX (Celeron processor) in a Window on the Lenovo (i5 processor) with very little lag. N O T E - By Default, Dragging a file to another computer drops it into the Desktop Folder. (I thought this was a bit weird, but there is a good reason). NoMachine DOES NOT allow dragging and dropping Folders between machines. NoMachine allows dragging and dropping of individual files between machine on the LAN NoMachine allows Cut/Copy and Paste between all machines on the LAN for text but NOT GRAPHICS ![]() NoMachine is the easiest VNC to set up that I have used with Mint - EverĪlmost as soon as a machine running NoMachine is booted and running it appears in the Status window of all machines on the LAN that are already running NoMachine.ĭouble clicking a machine's icon will open that machine in a window. Ok, it has been a month and a day since I installed NoMachine on the little Lenovo to mess around with using it for my VNC needs. As such, as long as you send and receive an 'Invitation' to a computer that has NoMachine on it, anywhere on the Internet, you can use it to access and control the distant machine - as a help desk device for example.įor now though, the most exciting thing about it is the simple cut/copy and paste across computers, and the drag and drop file transfer without stuffing around in LAN shared folders. It, like RealVNC and Vinagre is a Remote Viewing program. Now, there's another feature of NoMachine that isn't immediately obvious. So I closed the Vinagre window and I am trying now in the NoMachine window. However I realise I still had the BRIX open in Vinagre. I clicked on the BRIX icon, and a new window opened displaying the BRIX desktop. There were now two target servers shown in that window. Shortly there was a 'ping' audio notification and I checked the only thing open that might have done it. I wondered if it would work on the BRIX, so I installed NoMachine on the BRIX. That meant there was the very small inconvenience of having to open the destination machine's Desktop folder, and move the file to wherever I wanted it. The only downside seemed to be that it only worked dropping onto the Desktop. Dragging from the m93 to the Pi and vice versa worked regardless of the file type. Then out of curiosity I tried a music file. But across NoMachine, not only copy and paste worked every time, but dragging and dropping an image (to use as wallpaper) from the m93 to the Pi worked. While copy/cut and paste of documents sometimes worked on RealVNC, it was sporadic. I installed it and apart from being dead easy, it had another neat feature. So I was reading on this forum about NoMachine, and found it was available for ARM, and for the Pi (which is running Manjaro at present). A fresh microSD card in the Pi didn't help, nor did a new copy of realVNC for the m93p. ![]() Then the Pi stopped responding to realVNC. RealVNC server on the Raspberry Pi because it is built into it, and RealVNC Viewer on the m93p to control it. TigerVNC-scraping-server on the BRIX, and using Vinagre to view/control it. Raspberry Pi 4B (8GB) for, well, playing around with. Gigabyte BRIX as my Media Computer for playing music and movies Lenovo m93p (Tiny) as my main computer and 'viewer' into and 'controller' of the others. Until recently i was persisting with a couple of different server / viewer combinations for three computers that work together: Like a lot of others here I've discovered how simple it is to use NoMachine as a VCN server and viewer across a home network.
